On Tuesday September 23rd, we officially launched a 5x5 m OmniSystem – the OmniBatcher – at B.H. Ramberg. The OmniBatcher is located at their distribution center at Langhus (Norway) and has already proven to increase both the efficiency and quality of their services.

Picture this: It's the first Monday of summer break, and instead of sleeping in, three students from different academic backgrounds walk into OmniMod's office and are told, “See that automation system? We need to fit more parcels in there - without ever deadlocking the system. You've got eight weeks. Good luck!”

This summer, we - three engineering students from NTNU Trondheim - joined OmniMod as summer interns with a shared goal: To develop a stress tester for the OmniUnit, which is the key building block in the OmniSystem. Our challenge was to design and build a tool that could help the engineering team gather relevant data for refining the estimates for the lifetime of an OmniUnit, all while learning and growing as engineers.

Coming from different courses and with complementary skillsets, we formed a cross functional team. Two of us worked on embedded electronics, while one focused on mechanical design and physical implementation. Together, we tackled the project from concept design to testing, combining theory, hands-on skills and collaboration.

The fair season has accelerated the progress of OmniMod and attracted international interest. The team has rapidly tested and validated new concepts, which has further solidified the OmniSystem's AI-accelerated ability to make warehousing logistics future-proof and scalable. Here are the key takeaways from how we made it possible.

The world is constantly facing growing logistical challenges, such as increasing volumes, process complexities, and efficiency needs. Especially for retailers and eCommerce, minimal order fulfillment time is crucial in matching customer needs. Together with Element Logic, we have deployed a space-optimized, high-throughput, and flexible system that solves the order fulfillment challenges of Kitch'n.
