This summer, we – three engineering students from NTNU Trondheim – joined OmniMod as summer interns with a shared goal: To develop a stress tester for the OmniUnit, which is the key building block in the OmniSystem. Our challenge was to design and build a tool that could help the engineering team gather relevant data for refining the estimates for the lifetime of an OmniUnit, all while learning and growing as engineers. Coming from different courses and with complementary skillsets, we formed a cross functional team. Two of us worked on embedded electronics, while one focused on mechanical design and physical implementation. Together, we tackled the project from concept design to testing, combining theory, hands-on skills and collaboration.
